According to the legend, the pair once climbed a tree that grew too tall for them to climb back down. As they struggled among the branches, their clothing turned into tails and both brothers transformed into monkeys. Hunbatz became the howler monkey, who the Mayans honoured as a deity of art, music, and craftsmanship.
