Behind the Blend: Launching Our New Blended Coffees

At Ochils Coffee Roastery, the process of launching our new speciality coffee blends started long before they reached their bags. Our three newest blends were developed over several months, beginning at the end of 2025, and carefully refined until we felt they truly represented the quality and balance we wanted to offer.
The process started with flavour experimentation. We worked extensively with coffees from South America, building on beans that were already popular with our customers. Two of the new blends combine Brazilian and Colombian, and Brazilian and Guatemalan beans. These origins are known for their natural sweetness, smooth body, and versatility. These combinations allowed us to create balanced, approachable coffees designed for everyday enjoyment, particularly for espresso and milk-based drinks.
Our third blend represents something slightly different. It is our darkest roast yet, created to offer greater choice for those who prefer a stronger, more intense coffee profile. While still rooted in quality and careful sourcing, this roast level provides deeper flavour, enhanced body, and a more pronounced character in the cup. Developing this blend required precision to ensure strength did not compromise clarity or balance.
The blending process itself took time. We tested ratios, adjusted roast profiles, and evaluated each version across multiple brewing methods. Every adjustment was made intentionally, with the goal of creating coffees that feel consistent, reliable, and enjoyable in daily use.
Alongside flavour development, we also considered how the blends should look and feel. Our packaging and label designs are inspired by the natural Scottish countryside that surrounds us, something we feel fortunate to be part of. The designs draw influence from the landscape, reflecting the flow of rivers, the structure of trees, and the character of the land. We wanted the visual identity to feel grounded, natural, and aligned with our environment.
Sustainability was equally important. All packaging is fully recyclable and compostable, using natural-looking materials that elevate the presentation while reflecting the quality of the coffee inside. We believe packaging should protect freshness and communicate care, without unnecessary waste or compromise.
These new blends represent months of tasting, refining, designing, and reviewing. From initial concept to final launch, every decision was made with intention. The result is a collection that offers variety, depth, and balance — while staying true to our values of quality, freshness, and thoughtful production.
