Pop-Up Cafe to Roastery
Share
We've come a long way since we started as a pop-up cafe almost three years ago.
We were fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to open a coffee roastery at Solsgirth Home Farm by owner Jan back in 2022. We are a small part of the farm's wider vision to become a place where people can participate in learning opportunities and experiences.
There has been a lot of work put in to converting the old stables into our roastery. A huge thank you to the contractors who did the work for us! We think it looks pretty awesome! Some unforeseen delays popped up throughout the process, pushing back our opening plans. But fear not, it gave us plenty of time to hone our coffee making skills.
We enjoyed our time as a stall at the Solsgirth Farmer's markets. We learned a lot, we were able to train some keen members of our team and we got to have a chat with our customers, sharing our future plans for Ochils Coffee Roastery.
During this time we were able to piece together our vision - what we would represent, how we could highlight this and how these decisions would guide our operational processes. Our vision is simple but important - we value quality, community and sustainability.
We spent some number of hours discussing logos, colours, branding and packaging (Thank You Andy!) to ensure we would reflect the environment around us and the desire to be responsible members of the coffee industry. The results are a logo, labels and branded products which are responsibly sourced, recyclable and inspired by the Scottish countryside.
We named each of our coffees after a peak in the Ochil Hills which overlook our roastery. If you have been adventurous enough to go explore the hills, please do come and tell us all about it!
We roast our coffee in small batches, 4kgs at a time to be precise, to ensure we produce coffee that is of quality and maintains the natural flavours of the beans. We source our coffees from people who have connections and reputation for supporting the farmers to ensure we are supporting a fair, transparent and sustainable industry.
We look forward to our next steps with a fully operational roastery. We've even had a few complaints that we don't deliver to Germany or the USA yet!!
We've expanded already too! You can find our horse-box in the courtyard during the farmer's markets. We plan to showcase our coffees on offer each month so you can try all of our products before committing to spending your hard earned cash on us. Who knows maybe we'll take our horse box on the road sometime!
Our opening times remain on Solsgirth Farmer's Market weekends for the moment. We hope to be able to extend this soon. In the meantime, our website is open for business and keep your eyes peeled on socials! We will announce any changes to our opening hours there!
